There’s no better way to inspire children and introduce them to key programming concepts than with Lego Mindstorms. Lego Mindstorms lets kids build a robot out of Lego blocks, and then program it to perform actions.
This is a quick-start guide to programming your LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3RSTORM, which is recommended for children aged 10 and up. This guide can also be used for LEGO’s WeDo, which is recommended for children aged 7 and up and which uses the the RoboFellow app.
RoboFellow is an application where children simply enter commands and run the code. They can see the result of their instructions right away as the robot in front of them follows the code.
Compatibility
LEGO® MINDSTORMS® currently supports: EV3RSTORM and WEDO 2.0, iPad/iPhone with iOS 9.0 or above, Android with version 4.4 and up, and the RoboFellow app.
Create Your First Project
Choose your Robot. Start building something great in the Projects section. Click + to start a new blank project.
Connect to the EV3
Since you’ve created your own project, why not run it through the robot to see the result?
To run the project, you must first pair your app with the device using Bluetooth. Then click on the connection icon.
Configuration
LEGO® MINDSTORMS® comes with many sensors that you can make use of inside the app. To configure these sensors, add them inside the app by matching the ports connected to the robot.
RoboFellow Demo Ideas
When you open the Projects section, you’ll find some pre-installed demos. Check out the image and watch the YouTube video to understand the goal of the demo. You will find a map attached to each demo that you can download and print to see a live demo of the programmed code running the robot. You will certainly find yourself inspired, so have fun playing and changing the demo goal however you wish to make it yours!
