What do you think about Lego WeDo?

WeDo is assembled from small, colorful Lego pieces that mount on top of one another to create a robot. The resulting robot is incredibly useful; kids can use it to learn new subjects that promote creativity and imagination.

WeDo does not require kids to learn ambiguous programming concepts or to write long lines of code. Instead, the commands they use to control the robot are more simplistic and effective. An easy gateway into programming, WeDo helps kids learn science, physical motion, and math concepts as they play coding games or complete puzzles.

The concept of WeDo relies on STEM solutions that combine LEGO, standards-based projects, and a discovery-based approach to learning. Designed with collaboration in mind, each Core Set supports two students, introducing them to computational thinking and engineering principles in a fun and attractive way.

LEGO WeDo targets students in younger age groups than any other version of LEGO robotics. To accomplish this, every part of the process has been made simpler and more kid-friendly than ever.

The most important WeDo sensors are:

Distance sensor:

WeDo Distance Sensor

The distance sensor, also known as a motion sensor, can detect the distance between the sensor and an object. WeDo can detect objects up to 15 cm away.

The sensor's eye comes with an infrared beacon that enables the WeDo to recognize objects and to measure the distance between objects using just five to nine volts. Since the WeDo set runs at five volts, the distance sensor is considered an active infrared sensor.

Tilt sensor:

WeDo Tilt Sensor.

The robot can user the tilt sensor to recognize movements and define seven positions (or orientations): tilt right, tilt left, upward, downhill, no tilt, any tilt, and shake.

The sensors can be connected to the WeDo robot with the LEGO WeDo USB via Bluetooth.

RoboGarden appreciates the benefits of WeDo and RoboFellow. Check out the RoboFellow demos on Android devices running Nougat OS and later to see how the WeDo robot can be fun. These gamified demos are sure to inspire your kids.
